Meet the team – Lukasz

This is how True Energy’s Tech Lead ended up moving from Poland to Denmark

True Energys Łukasz moved to Denmark so that he could take on the job as True Energy’s Tech Lead. Read his thoughts on our Managed API.

True Energys Tech Lead Łukasz Dudek and his family moved from Poland to Denmark. Here he reveals his first Danish impressions, what the job as True Energy’s Tech Lead entails, and why he is so excited about our Managed API.

The decision to start at True Energy in 2020 was easy for Łukasz Dudek.

“It was the most sustainable and green energy-focused company – and solution that was on the market at the time,” our Tech Lead recalls .

And in 2022, he and his family made the dream of living outside their home country come true by moving to Denmark and settling in close to True Energy’s headquarters in Hørsholm.

The family quickly noticed Denmark’s efficient public infrastructure, general focus on efficiency, and easy access to nature.

We invited him to talk about his work, which current True Energy projects he is most excited about, his background and his thoughts on sustainability.

What is your educational background?

I have a master’s degree in robotics automation and control. My master’s thesis focused on using Python and Matlab to optimize control signals. Before I started at True Energy, I worked on a particle accelerator and for a company that makes intelligent lighting equipment.

What is your role at True Energy and what does it entail?

As Tech Lead, I combine a bird’s eye view of our solution and technology portfolio with hands-on work with different teams on many different projects.

What makes it particularly interesting?

I love the position of Tech Lead because it combines extensive insight into and understanding of our entire technology portfolio with working in our technology “engine room” with the rest of the team.

What is the most exciting thing you are working on right now?

We are switching to a new cloud service, Google Cloud Platform. It may sound simple, but there are many parts to keep track of. And I am also very excited about our new Managed API.

Can you reveal what our Managed API is?

Our Managed API (Application Programming Interface) provides easy integration with other applications and systems. API solutions reduce development and maintenance costs, and are an easy way to get started with some very complicated technology.

For our current and potential partners in energy and electric vehicles, our Managed API means faster access to innovative, data-driven energy solutions, reduced operating costs and improved efficiency.

Our Managed API enables our partners to integrate our smart charge into their own app. In addition to smart charge functionality. The partners can also offer their customers that their electric cars take part in balancing the electricity grid during the night. In this way, they help to balance the electricity grid – completely without noticing it – and at the same time they can obtain payment for it – we call it Cable Discount.

What is the best thing about being part of the True Energy team?

We have a great team and a company culture. Here we support each other and celebrate successes. So if you have a problem or challenge, there is always someone ready to help you and work with to find answers and solutions.

What do you think makes electric cars important for the future?

The electrification of transportation is a must if we are to minimize the consequences of climate change and move towards a greener and more sustainable future. Electric cars are a core element in that process.

What role does smart charge play in this context?

The increased electrification will lead to a need for an expansion of the electricity grid. In order to avoid just some of the extremely expensive construction projects that this will entail, smart charging via solutions like ours is essential. We can minimize peak loads and save consumers money, while at the same time working for a greener future.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability means that we should strive to leave the Earth in at least as good a condition as when we were born. I have a son and a second child on the way, so I want to work to secure their future and to treat nature, which helps to keep us all alive, as well as possible.

What do you personally do for sustainability?

I recycle as much as possible and of course I drive an electric car. Another thing we as a family are very aware of is limiting our use of various resources for example heating, so we very rarely turn on the heat at home.

 Do you have any hobbies?

I have started playing guitar again after a few years break. I am on a couple of records that have been released in Poland. Together with my band, I set music to the work of a young poet. I also love different types of games and sports. My father had a penchant for climbing mountains in the Himalayas. So during my childhood our summers were spent hiking in the mountains of southern Poland. It gave me a natural love for nature and I still love spending time outdoors.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I clearly remember that I wanted to be a doctor or a general.

What is your go-to song?

I have a broad taste in music, so it is not easy to answer. It would probably be a rock song. A good suggestion would be Lateralus by Tool.

Is there something your coworkers probably don’t know about you?

They know that I have recorded music. I think very few know what the music actually sounds like – or what the poems are about.

How do you prefer your coffee or tea?

I am fond of Yerba Mate, brewed and drunk as they do in South America. I have my special cup and bombilla (metal straw) here in the office.
