True Energy, a Landis+Gyr company, has signed a new partnership agreement with Barry, one of Denmark’s leading, fully digital utility companies. The agreement enables Barry to offer its customers access to several new services and solutions related to EV charging.
As a result, electric vehicle owners can benefit from True Energy’s solutions for automated, intelligent charging when the electricity is most cost-efficient and most climate friendly. In addition, customers have the opportunity to earn rewards while their cars are charging. Barry, together with True Energy, will be able to offer access to the so-called cable discount scheme, which enables EV owners to benefit from discounts on their energy bills by agreeing to offer their car as a “buffer” in the electric grid. With True Energy’s solution, EV charging automatically stops and restarts for short periods, when needed. Initially the cable discount scheme is active primarily during the night. Subsequently, electric vehicles support a balanced electric grid.

Electric Vehicles: Creating Opportunities instead of Challenges
Denmark has set ambitious goals for the expansion of electric vehicles, with the target to increase the number of EVs on Danish roads to one million before the end of the decade. Reaching this goal requires infrastructure development and intelligent, innovative use of electric vehicles and smart charging infrastructure technology.
Electric four-wheelers can pose a challenge to the existing energy grid’s capacity. For example, charging a plethora of EVs simultaneously at peak times may be a too high a load for the existing electricity grid and power generation capacities.
